Tinubu surprised 'Edo no be Lagos' supporters - Oshiomhole

Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has praised President Bola Tinubu for saving face and making a bold and popular decision after his May 29 swearing in.

Speaking in Abuja on Sunday at a ceremony held to honor the senators, Oshiomhole described the 2023 electricity bill introduced by Tinubu as a game changer, saying the president is fulfilling Nigerians expected it as a “job chair”.

Recalling how Tinubu contested for the presidency, Oshiomhole said he proved the opposition wrong. β€œSome people shouted ‘Edo no be Lagos’ when the then APC politician, Bola Tinubu, went to Benin City (to campaign). But he said something at that time. I remember he said that those who say “Edo no be Lagos” should go and see how Edo will be like Lagos if it is better than Lagos. This man is now the president of Nigeria with a legislative branch called the National Assembly. Oshiomhole said, “It also gave our judges time to have the courage to deliver justice without the fear of retiring soon and wondering what to do next.”

He said the new electricity bill signed by Tinubu will, among other benefits, prevent the importation of electricity into neighboring countries in Niger Republic. He said: β€œThe president has taken over.

He started what he promised to do. People may not like the immediate effect, but eventually what it saves will be put back into the system. He also had another thing he said that many people noticed. He said that as president he will no longer accept a situation where you have something called the National grid that cannot deliver electricity from Ovia to the Azura power plant.
β€œAccording to the Governor of Edo State, the Azura Power Plant was established to produce about 750 megawatts. But this power is sometimes transferred to the Republic of Niger and you have no power in Benin. The president has signed a law that says you can generate your own electricity and consume it where you generate it. You don’t have to submit it to avoid the failure of the system which can leave the producers and consumers in the dark. It is now legal. He signed it last week.

Oshiomhole said that the way Tinubu started said, “What we owe him is our prayer that in the national parliament we will work with him. We will interview politicians, support each other and ensure that Onyeisiala can implement all these things that are well written in Bola Tinubu’s plan when he runs for office.
