Ooni sues for peace over presidential election results

Ooni sues for peace over presidential election results.

Ife’s Ooni, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has appealed to Nigeria’s political elite and people to settle the conduct and voting of Saturday’s presidential election.

There was outrage from the Nigerian public for not using the bimodal voter certification system (BVAS) to upload Saturday’s presidential election results to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

On Tuesday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labor Party (LP) called for the entire process to be annulled, but the APC responded that the election is a democratic process that cannot be aborted.

In response to the allegations and counterarguments, the Osun monarch called for calm in an emergency press release issued by media and public relations director Otumba Moses Olafalle at the Il Oudua Palace in Ile Ife on Tuesday.

Ooni, co-chair of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, NCTRN, said the disruption resulting from Saturday’s presidential election was “unnecessary, distracting and totally unacceptable. The country doesn’t need it now.”

β€œAround the world, elections are notoriously controversial, and tensions must be managed according to national laws and in line with global best practice.”

β€œAll the politicians involved and their respective political parties, without exception, need not do anything to inspire their communities. because it will,” the statement said.
Traditional rulers urged Nigerians to be patient and to understand the fact that the country is much larger than all entities and personalities.
β€œNigeria, and some Nigerians, are recovering from injuries caused by the mismanagement of the #ENDSARS protests. Therefore, we must be careful with our actions and words.

β€œNigerian people have suffered enough and any form of rioting will only exacerbate the already harsh living conditions of Nigerians, especially the poor and vulnerable among us. We urge you to resist the pressure to be used as thugs by the criminal elements,” added Ooni.
