Declaration of wealth, a good tool in the fight against corruption - Former President of Ghana, Mahama

Former Ghanaian President John Mahama has described the asset declaration system as a useful tool in the fight against corruption.

He said this at the 53rd annual conference of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, titled “Asset Valuation As a Global Anti-Corruption Tool – The Nigeria Experience”, which took place on Thursday in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State. However, he said that “in most cases, it is not used to make it higher.”

Mahama said that a wealth declaration form must be completed by a candidate for public office, adding: β€œIn my country, Ghana, the person is asked to list assets and their possessions”, such as houses, farms, cars, jewelry. , among others. Others are required to assign values to each of these assets and properties.
“Most of the time, the values assigned to these assets are limited or excessive,” he added. Mahama told Nigeria to constantly strive to improve and implement the global anti-corruption policy designed to reduce the negative impact of corruption on the national economy.
He also called on Nigerians to support the government’s efforts in the fight against corruption, whether public or private, adding that “those who sign the agreement create negative things contribute to the destruction of the country.”

Speaking through his deputy, Kayode Alabi, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq told the agency to work with the government at all levels to strengthen its role and help in the fight against corruption. In his speech, the president of the company, John Bull Amayevbo, described corruption as a major factor affecting the economic progress and development of the country.
