Former Real Madrid president, Ramon Calderon, has said that he disagreed with Vinicius over his recent comments on La Liga.
Vinicius had branded La Liga as a racist league after was the subject of racist chants from fans during Real Madrid’s 1-0 defeat against Valencia last weekend.
Upset by the incident, Vinicius claimed that the La Liga, in which the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo Nazario once played, now belongs to racists.
However, Calderon has now refuted the Brazilian’s claim, saying that he would regret his comments because these incidents are uncontrollable.
“These are isolated situations,” Calderon said on the Argentinian radio show Super Deportivo Radio.
“Spain is not a racist country, everyone who has come here knows it. These are unfortunate events, which do not represent Spanish football. These situations are uncontrollable because any coward can launch these insults.”
“Vinicius’ statements were at a difficult time, the player is in a moment of anger,” Calderon added.
“I think that in a few days, he will be sorry for what he said. I don’t agree with him saying that before, the league belonged to Ronaldo (Nazario), Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and company, and now it belongs to racists.”
